For those of you unfamiliar with how these games work, simply put… press the button when the corresponding note comes down the screen and strum. In it’s simplicity lies its perfection. Anyhow, back to Aerosmith…

When I first loaded up this game, my initial thought was… this is exactly the same as Guitar Hero 3 with some swapped graphics. The interface and gameplay is essentially the same as the latest in the Guitar Hero series. I can’t really complain, since I loved the previous version. There are a few new characters, but for the most part all the default characters in GH3 are present in GHA.

The biggest difference between GH3 and GHA are the songs. When you play in career mode, you seem to go in the chronological order as Aerosmith went through during their rise to the billboards. I don’t know shit all about the group, I have only heard some of their songs. To me, the nostalgia factor was at an all time low. I can see that this game would really hit home for big Aerosmith fans, but not so much with me.

The songs sounded familiar, and after playing through all of them and finishing the game in less than a few days (on expert even), the difficulty of play in GHA is less than that of its predecessors. This game was fucking easy. I’d have to say that more focus was put into developing a feel of being in the band, rather than the actual gameplay or the songs. In previous versions of GH, I had difficulties with songs and had to go in and practice a few of them. That was not the case with GHA. As an avid “Guitar Hero” (if you will), I was not quite challenged and therefore felt a bit cheated.

If you are new to the game, and love Aerosmith, this is the perfect entry level guitar-slangin game for you. It can be a lot of fun (as are all of the other Guitar Heroes), especially when you play with friends. It definitely will not score you any chicks, but it will at least make you feel like you were a part of the band.

now how does that relate to guitar hero 3? same feelings, but better graphics. basically the best feeling you’ll have next to actually playing a guitar. this game has torn our civilization apart.

i started playing guitar hero 2 maybe 3-4 weeks ago. i saw a plastic guitar at a friend’s house and curiosity killed this cat. i asked to give it a rip… i instantly fell in love. a few days later we went to another one of my homie’s place and he happened to have guitar hero 1 and 2 AND two guitars.

it began.

incessant playing and twanging for days. i think the first time we went there, we played a good 6 hours. now, only a few weeks later we thought the pain would subside, but guitar hero 3 came out. i played it the first day it came out later that week i picked it up and brought it to my friend’s place… and about 3 hours later we finished it and unlocked about 90% of the songs. our lives were over. thanks activision.

who knew a plastic toy with a bunch of buttons could keep 6 grown men occupied for hours on end without recess?

…although the barbie airplane is pretty dope, that only kept me busy for about 20 minutes.
